Hey everyone,
I'm Sarah Jo Loveday, the heart and mind behind the City Allies initiative, an ethnographic project designed to explore the heartbeat of the City of London and discover the unique stories that make up its fabric: the stories of its people. You might be wondering, 'What is all this about?' Well, ultimately, it's about bringing City people together to foster a more inclusive, supportive, and vibrant urban community right in the heart of London. This project is my personal invitation to you, to explore the City not as mere observers but as storytellers and listeners, unravelling the narratives that make the City of London what it is. It's about connecting through the power of stories, and understanding the lives that pulse within this urban landscape.
This initiative isn't just about uncovering what makes our City tick or just a deep dive for data. It's about shining a light on the amazing mix of people who keep the City buzzing, individuals who work and live here. It's about bringing to light the fascinating stories of the people who keep it thriving.
The City boasts a variety of professionals and establishments—from financial services and legal experts to educational institutions, worshipful companies, art venues, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, retail shops, charities, churches, and hotels, just to name a few. Each one plays a vital role in the pulsating life of the City, and it's their stories that fuel my curiosity and excitement.
For me, City Allies came from a place of wanting to connect with others, sprinkle a little light into our corners of the world, and explore, with boundless curiosity, the rich tapestry of experiences the City presents.
I am someone who thrives on connecting with people and making a difference in the workplace and my community. My life is pretty much entwined with the City’s rhythm—juggling with my HR consultancy as a female founder, entrepreneur and people professional, while soaking in the vibrant social and cultural scene here.
The City of London is this incredible blend of professional vibes, cultural depth, history, entertainment, and all sorts of support networks, all animated by the fantastic people who call it home. City Allies is here to spotlight these incredible people, to share their stories, their opportunities and challenges, and to build a sense of community and belonging in this fast-paced environment.
In my interactions with City workers and residents, I discovered that their stories were not only heartwarming but incredibly fascinating. They ignited my curiosity and fueled my desire to share these narratives with a broader audience. The City’s diversity, from finance and law to education, arts, and hospitality, underscores the collective effort that makes the City thrive. It's about celebrating these individual journeys and the rich tapestry of experiences that define our City.
Moreover, City Allies presents a unique opportunity not just to meet people and discover their stories, but also to inspire the next generation of professionals.
